 Head Men’s Soccer Coach 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages all aspects of the Soccer intercollegiate athletic team including recruitment, instruction, training and conditioning, budget preparation, scheduling, travel arrangements, supervision and motivation of student athletes’ academics, in accordance with USCAA and college regulations.

REQUIREMENTS: 

Bachelor’s degree; or 2 to 4 years related coaching or Athletic Director experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, students, parents, and the general public.  Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record. 

HOURS:  To be determined.  Hours set according to Soccer schedule and/or practices. Seven-week position starting August 29, 2010 through October 16, 2010.

NOVA Wilderness Orientation Program
Summer 2010 

Now Hiring NOVA Trip Leaders! 

Unity College is seeking mature individuals with demonstrated wilderness and leadership skills to lead six short wilderness based trips for incoming Unity College students during summer 2010.

NOVA is a wilderness-based Student Orientation Program that is required of all incoming Unity College Students.  While the NOVA trips are designed to be fun their primary purpose is to aid in preparing students for the joys and challenges associated with joining the Unity College academic community. NOVA activities include team-building, community living, group problem-solving, and environmental stewardship in addition to canoeing, kayaking, hiking, backpacking and assorted base camp opportunities. 

The paid staff training will run from Sunday, July 11th – Friday, July 16th.  The NOVA season runs from Sunday, July 18th through Friday, August 27th.  

Responsibilities & Qualifications 

NOVA Leaders are responsible for contributing to a high quality wilderness orientation program.  Responsibilities include: 

  • Delivering wilderness skill instruction
  • Maintaining safety and risk management standards
  • Facilitating NOVA activities and discussions
  • Promoting the developmental goals of the NOVA program
  • Completing all necessary pre- and post-trip work 

NOVA Leaders will be responsible for sharing leadership with co-leaders, communicating effectively and maturely with students, parents, and other staff.  Applicants must have knowledge and experience in the wilderness and in leadership roles.  Applicants must possess high quality interpersonal communication skills, a high level of motivation, and a desire to work with incoming students.  Additional qualifications include strong independent problem solving skills, flexibility surrounding working hours and tasks, good phone skills, ability to track records, certification (or ability to become certified) to drive college vans, and a wilderness first aid certification (WFA or WFR) plus CPR.   In addition to these responsibilities, NOVA Leaders must be able to represent Unity College and the NOVA Program in a professional manner to the students, staff, faculty, and public. 

Trip Leader (3 positions) 

  • Lead NOVA trip for incoming students
  • Maintain safety and risk management standards
  • Teach outdoor skills to participants
  • Facilitate group experience and discussions
  • Complete necessary pre- and post-trip paperwork for NOVA trips
  • Develop positive working relationships with assistant leaders 

Requirements

  • Significant outdoor leadership experience
  • Competence in a wide range of outdoor skills and challenge course or related facilitation
  • Certified Wilderness First Responder or higher and CPR.

                       Administrative Assistant, Experiential Programs 

RESPONSIBLITIES:    

Responsible for providing  administrative support to the Career Resource Center (CRC), Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC), and the Community-Based Learning (CBL) Office.  Will manage complex databases, assist with event organization, and develop and participate in outreach activities for students.   Will also have extensive contact with work-study students and provide assistance to them. 

REQUIREMENTS:   Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; excellent customer service skills, and work well with a diverse student and employee population.  Excellent word processing, spreadsheet and computerized database skills; familiarity with website design or willingness to learn.  High School Diploma or equivalent with a business/trade school graduate preferred; 4 years of job-related experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have a valid Driver’s License with good driving record.  

HOURS:  Full-time, year-round position; Monday through Friday, generally days; occasional evening and weekends required.

Men’s Basketball Coach 

RESPONSIBILTIES:    Manages all aspects of the basketball intercollegiate athletic team including recruitment instruction, training and conditioning, budget preparation, scheduling, travel arrangements, supervision and motivation of student athlete academics, in accordance with USCAA and college regulations.   Organizes practice sessions, maintains uniforms and equipment, supervises teams on away contests, and performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.  Directly supervises work-study students in the basketball program.

REQUIREMENTS:    Bachelor’s Degree with 2-4 years of related coaching or Athletic Director experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, students, parents, and the general public.  Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record. 

HOURS:  To be determined according to Basketball schedule and/or practices.
