Supplemental Instruction Leader – 1 - UC STUDENT POSITIONSRESPONSIBLITIES: SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION (SI) is an academic support program that targets historically difficult courses. SI is a non-remedial approach to learning enrichment that increases student performance and retention. SI offers regularly scheduled, out-of-class, review sessions to all students enrolled in a targeted course. SI study sessions are informal seminars to review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and prepare for examinations. Students learn to integrate course content with reasoning and improved study skills. Each SI session is facilitated by SI student leaders who previously and successfully completed the target course. SI student leaders attend all class lectures, take notes, and act as model students for students enrolled in a targeted course. SI will target MA 2243 Statistics I, section 04. *** Summer Student Researchers Unity College seeks to hire up to 6 Unity College undergraduate students to conduct ecological research with faculty from May 29, 2012 to July 11, 2012. Unity College has received NSF- (National Science Foundation) sponsored funding in support of this research through EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research). RESPONSIBLITIES: Students will work closely with faculty to investigate the relationship between environmental variables, invertebrate biodiversity and forest management in hemlock-dominated woodlots. Student responsibilities will include collecting and identifying invertebrates (ants, ground beetles and earthworms), identifying plants, entering data, using GPS technology, and other field techniques. Other responsibilities could include camping, driving throughout the state, and interviewing park users. REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to meet the following physical demands while working in the field: ability to work long days under a variety of conditions including rain, heat, and biting insects, ability to meet the physical demands of camping in a wilderness setting. PAY/HOURS: Temporary, full-time, from May 29, 2012 through July 11, 2012. Stipend of $2,500 for the summer.
