CENTER for SUSTAINABILITY and GLOBAL CHANGE Tomorrow’s environmental professionals need to be smart, flexible and creative problem solvers. They need to be prepared to face 21st century environmental challenges. That’s why we’ve developed a suite of programs that combines education, outreach and service learning, intended to cultivate a broad awareness of global change issues. Sustainability and Global Change students, working with community-partners, address serious environmental issues through the development and application of real-life sustainability measures needed to protect our natural and social worlds. Academic Challenge As a student at the Center for Sustainability and Global Change, you should be prepared to think, crunch numbers, and present your work with a sophisticated understanding of how systems work together. What you’ll gain is the confidence to explore new ideas, and the courage to act and lead as responsible global citizens. You’ll also acquire and display the skills gleaned from our academically challenging liberal arts program: the ability to think critically, write and speak effectively, reason through problems and embrace learning as a life-long endeavor. Hands-On Experiential Learning We find that our students learn best when they can get their hands involved, whether in the field or the lab. Long after college, you will remember these experiences and the lessons they brought to life. We also believe that as students you will learn as much from what we do as from what we say. Our Center supports sustainability efforts on campus and works in areas like green building technology, renewable energy, facility composting and in the campus gardens. And, we practice what we preach by involving ourselves in community-based learning and service projects. 21st Century Preparedness As a graduate of Unity College you will leave prepared for success with the strong foundation of science, technology and social science skills needed to tackle the new and evolving environmental challenges affecting us all.
