Unity College - Outward Bound Wilderness
Adventure Educator Semester

Course Description:
The 56+ day field semester is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills , and experience that are essential to leaders in the field of adventure education.  Ideally Adventure Education students would take this field semester during the fall semester of their second year.  The field semester is available as an elective for students from other academic programs.  The curriculum will challenge students in areas of safety and judgment, leadership, outdoor skills, outdoor teaching techniques, environmental ethics, and group management and facilitation.  Additionally, students will be eligible to receive LNT Trainer, and Wilderness First Responder Certifications.

Expedition Style:

The majority of this course will take place on the rivers, along the coastline, and in the mountains of northern New England.  Each course section will have its own separate route.  Most of our course areas will be remote, so evacuations to modern medical facilities may take up to 24 hours.  It is important that participants are highly motivated, professionally oriented towards adventure education, and in good physical condition.  All classes and assignments will be conducted in the field or at one of the Outward Bound bases.
