Adventure Therapy CENTER for ENVIRONMENTAL AND EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION Adventure Therapy majors are agents for change and champions for personal development. They challenge the status quo and promote Inter- and Intra-personal growth and change. They are explorers of the natural world as well as the human psyche. They understand nature’s ability to connect people to their own thoughts and behavior and believe in its power to teach and heal.
Adventure Therapy majors are driven to make a positive difference in people’s lives. They are passionate about helping individuals to address personal and social issues through reflecting on and processing nature–based and adventure experiences. They understand psychology, counseling and therapy and are comfortable talking and listening to others as they guide them in the direction of their own healing. They understand that this healing may involve being in the natural environment for extended periods of time.
Is this you? Are you comfortable with the metaphorical aspects of adventure and of nature? Do you like teaching others about themselves and about their place in the natural and social worlds? Do you see the power of using imagery, adventure and nature to break through repetitive or unhealthy behaviors? Are you a doer, an acute observer and a problem solver? Do you have compassion for those who are in need of emotional and physical assistance? Could you chase down a run-away in the middle of the night and then spend hours with him or her in discussion around a campfire? Would your family and friends describe you are adventurous and wild about the wilderness?
