Learning Resource Center Kurzweil 3000 is a text to speech program that gives students with reading difficulties access to their textbooks, course handouts, web sites, and online books. This software also provides powerful writing and study skill tools. Kurzweil is currently installed on 5 computers in the LRC. Dragon Naturally Speaking is a voice recognition software program which assists students who have difficulty with written language. These may be students who have difficulty expressing concepts in writing, have language based difficulties, attention or executive functioning issues. Inspiration is a visual mapping software program that facilitates the organization of the writing process by helping to brainstorm ideas and by making relationships between concepts and ideas more understandable. RFBD - Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic - is a volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to make reading material accessible to those who are blind, who have dyslexia, or who are otherwise impaired. Unity College has a subscription to RFB&D and has playback devices available for sign out at the library. If a student's textbook is available through RFB&D, that student will be able to access his/her text by listening to a tape or CD. |
