Welcome to the Writing Center
The Unity College Writing Center is an academic support service for all members of the campus community: students, faculty and staff. The director and trained peer tutors work collaboratively with anyone seeking the services of the Center’s staff in an effort to help those individuals become more comfortable with their own writing process and more confident in their unique style and voice. Our focus is to foster stronger writers, so we work to help individuals make their own writing better, to give them the skills they need to improve, and to guide them to the point where they can better rely on their own judgment when it comes to writing.
Center staff members work with writers at all levels of development and at any point during their writing processes, from first ideas to final drafts. Because writing occurs in a variety of courses at Unity, Center staff members are a resource for all of your writing needs, from traditional essays, to lab reports, to scholarship essays, to resumes and cover letters. Whatever your writing need, we're here to help you.
In a Writing Center tutorial, you can expect staff to:
- work collaboratively with you on any element of your writing process,
- respect your authority as creator and owner of the writing being shared,
- help you to identify areas of strength and weakness in your writing,
- help you to develop strategies for improving your writing, and
- respect the privacy and confidentiality of all tutorial sessions.
The Writing Center is located in the lower level of the Quimby Library and is open Monday through Friday. Drop in or call ahead for an appointment (207-948-3131, ext. 365).
