Canoeing the St. Croix River

Prior Experience Required: No
Exertion Level: Mild

The St. Croix River is a beautiful scenic waterway that runs along the border of Maine and New Brunswick, Canada.  We will start in the small border town of Vanceboro, Maine and take out at Kellyland some 31.5 miles later.  We will be paddling through many rips (small rapids) where we will hone our paddling skills.

On the second day, we will be ready for Little Falls–an easy class II whitewater drop that is fun for both novice and experienced paddlers.  From Little Falls, the river continues through many sets of small rapids and meanders through beautiful scenery where you are likely to see bald eagles, osprey or even a moose.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in a service project to benefit and preserve this international scenic waterway.

Photo identification and a birth certicate or passport are required for this trip.  Nova leaders and participants are required to check in with U.S. Customs before embarking on this trip.
