Nova Wilderness Orientation Program

Your Unity College adventure begins with Nova. All entering students are enrolled in the Unity Experience Course which begins with the Nova adventure-based orientation trip. Winter Nova trips run during winter break just before classes begin. Half of the participants are incoming and transfer students while the other half are students who need to make up the summer Nova experience.

The first day (January 11) serves as a big group welcome on campus. All students spend the afternoon getting acquainted with their leaders and the group. On-campus students will move into their residence halls earlier in the day. Trips will depart in the late afternoon on the January 11th and return mid-afternoon on the January 15.

Nova trips are designed to support the transition to college life by emphasizing personal growth, building social connections, and promoting environmental stewardship. It also encourages new students to become full participants in the College and broader communities. Nova trips are small group adventure-based experiences led by well-trained leaders who are Unity College students themselves.

Nova will be set at scenic Tanglewood 4H Camp in Lincolnville. We will be staying in rustic cabins with a wood stove for heat. During this program, we will focus on cross country skiing, snowshoeing, primitive skills: including wilderness awareness, tracking, shelter building, and fire making. We will even have opportunity to go ice fishing.

Dates: Wednesday, January 11 – Sunday, Jan 15
