HOME SCHOOL APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION                 

  

Unity College recognizes the hard work, dedication, and self-motivation necessary to complete a high school curriculum in the home school environment. Recognizing that students educated in this setting have the ability, potential, and motivation to do college work, Unity College welcomes applications for admission from home-schooled students.

 

Home Schooled applicants must submit the following documents

  

  • Part I - Application for Admission 
  • Part II - Student Profile (interests, activities, employment, essay questions)
  • Portfolio - a creative, informative representation of curricular and co-curricular  materials (ie. bibliography, science laboratory reports, writing samples, etc)
  • Two letters of recommendation  
  • SAT or ACT scores (not required, but submit if taken)
  • Interviews are not required, but campus visits are strongly recommended

Admission is based upon your academic achievement, essay questions, extracurricular and co-curricular involvement, community service, work experiences, special talents, and your motivation to succeed.

Academic requirements include the following:

  • Four years of English courses that incorporate a variety of texts (fiction, non-fiction, essays, memoirs, journalism) and that emphasize exploratory and analytic writing.
  • Four years of math courses are strongly recommended (three are required) that include at least algebra I and II and geometry, taken as separate courses or as an integrated sequence of courses.
  • Three years of laboratory sciences are strongly recommended (two are required) that include the study of biology and chemistry.  Sciences courses that emphasize the writing of technical reports and data analysis
  • Three years of history and social science in courses that emphasizes the reading and the use of quantitative data and research findings.
Honors, AP, and IB course work are a plus.  SATs and ACTs are not required, but students are encouraged to submit them if taken.
