History
On September 7 1965 the Unity Institution of Liberal Arts and Sciences was incorporated as an institution of higher learning. The Institution opened on September 6, 1966 with a faculty of fifteen and a student body of 39. The name was changed to Unity College in 1967
Unity College received degree granting status in December 1968 and in June 1969; 24 degrees were awarded to our first graduating class. The following year (1970), eighty-two degrees were awarded. Unity college conferred 104 degrees this past May, which exemplifies our continued commitment to personalized education.
The original campus consisted of a farm with several of the farm buildings serving as residence halls, classrooms and administrative offices. The original farmhouse now is home to the College Development, Public Safety, Human Resources, and Switchboard offices. Over the course of the next ten years, five residence halls were built, the library completed and an addition to the Activities Building completed. In 1997 the Allison Hall Welcome Center was built thanks to funding by Doris and Kenneth Hall. Chianchette Hall, a community centered residence hall was added in 1998.
Unity College has always had an active, dedicated and engaged student body. Students are involved in a myriad of clubs, sports, recreational activities, student government, and music. Just about every committee and organization on campus has at least one student member with full voting rights, including the board of trustees.
Unity College has grown to become America's Environmental College and now offers more majors in the environmental and natural resource areas than any other college in the United States. In addition, Unity College now graduates more students each year than any other US college in the environmental and natural resource disciplines.
