Local Businesses and Attractions

Several small businesses and attractions are located in the town of Unity and the surrounding area. Unity is about an hour's drive from the state capital of Augusta, about an hour from Bangor, and about 35 minutes from Belfast and Waterville. Unity Pond (also known as Lake Winnecook) offers fishing, boating and swimming. The Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad has its headquarters here (and its steam train, the "Spirit of Unity"). The "Field of Dreams" athletic field provides walking paths, a playground, a tennis court and three ball fields. Unity Raceway, with its 1/3 mile oval track, is a popular attraction. The Common Ground Fair, sponsored by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), calls its 260-acre fairground in Unity home. The Unity Farmers' Market, located at the new Unity Community Center, is a great place to buy local vegetables and products. Unity Pond Pottery is a popular destination for shoppers.
