The student-built Wind Turbine at Unity College
Purpose: To demonstrate wind power techniques that are cheap enough to be used in the developing world
Note: We don’t need to make a lot of renewable electricity at Unity College because the power we use already comes from renewable sources: Maine hydropower and biomass
SPECS:
0.200-1.0 kwh at 12-100mph
59 inch rotors
30 foot tower
wind speed recording device
alternator is 1969 GM Delco SI 10 reworked with permanent magnet
COST: $400 dollars or less
WORK TIME: 25 students, around I hr per week, for 15 weeks
