Jim Nelson Associate Professor of Wildlife |
| Jim Nelson came to Unity College in 1991. He previously taught Wildlife and Range management at Sul Ross State University in the Big Bend region of West Texas. At Unity he is the coordinator to the Wildlife Program, and teaches North American Wildlife, Wildlife techniques, Wildlife ecology and management, Mammalogy and Animal Behavior. Jim says that the most exciting part of his job is the actual teaching; especially the lab sessions, where interaction with students is more possible and he can see them progress. Jim is interested in all the myriad aspects of Wildlife - ecology, management, policy and natural history. He is active in the Maine Chapter of the Wildlife Society and encourages student participation. He says that wildlife professionals in Maine are anxious to meet, help and encourage students, and students need to take advantage of this. Jim also has some long term wildlife monitoring research in which selected students can participate. Two of these are waterfowl use of Unity district settling ponds and rodent abundance in the Unity College woodlot.
