TEXTS: National Audubon Society Field Guide to Birds; Mammals of the Great Lakes Region  

The objective of this course is to familiarize you with principal species of game birds and mammals in North America (about 113 species total, about 2/3 birds), their habits and habitats and wildlife management. The "lab" is now a separate course called North American Wildlife Identification. This lecture course will cover life histories, habits and habitats, geographic distribution and some conservation and management principles. The sequence is as follows:

 Marsh birds, exotic species and upland gamebirds

 Waterfowl – Web lectures 1-10.

                                  EXAM #2  Wed. Oct. 29

Mammals – Web lectures 16-23(lecture 16, lecture 17, lecture 18, lecture 19, lecture 20, lecture 21, lecture22, lecture 23)

                                 FINAL EXAM    Wed. 12/17  8:00-10:00 AM

 A missed lecture exam must  be made up by the next lecture period unless there was an emergency absence. A 10% penalty may be assessed. Writing assignments will be part of this course, details of which will be provided later.

 

In addition, writing assignments and a service learning component will be part of this course. Details will be provided.
