To Benefit the Unity Area Food Pantry and People for People

Unity College to Hold 12th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser on December 7

Unity, Maine -- December, 2006 –  On Thursday, December 7th, Unity College and community partners including Unitel and the Unity Barn Raisers will host the 12th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit the Unity area food pantry and People for People, two Unity, Maine area organizations dedicated to local hunger relief.  The candle-lit community setting fundraiser will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Unity Centre for the Performing Arts.  Admission is free and open to the general public with a suggested donation of $10 encouraged.

Diners will enjoy a simple meal of bread and soup served in bowls donated by Unity College pottery students and generous area potters.  They are free to keep the hand-made bowl they used for their meal.  Unity College students will join area volunteers to serve the meal.

“This is an outstanding annual event that shows the good that College students and community partners like Unitel and the Unity Barn Raisers can achieve in partnership to benefit their community,” noted Jennifer Olin, Community Service Learning Coordinator for Unity Barn Raisers and Unity College.  “Not only is this a good way for people to come together and celebrate the holiday season, but in so doing, help community organizations that benefit many individuals and families all year long.”
