Unity College leaders hook kids on fishing

UNITY (March 6): The Unity College Ideal Leadership Class, in conjunction with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, sponsored the “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” ice-fishing event Saturday, March 3, on Unity Pond.

The second annual event lured nearly 40 Waldo County area children to learn the joy of ice fishing now, as an alternative to using drugs in the future. IF&W supplied traps, while the Albion Bait Shop donated live bait for participants.

Nearly 50 doors prizes including fishing poles, tackle boxes, ice traps and lures were donated by area businesses. Unity College students offered advice on fishing techniques and hot food for cold anglers.
