First Annual Unity College Sportsmen’s Conference and Wild Game Dinner at Unity Center for the Performing Arts April 19

Unity, Maine -- April, 2007 –  Unity College will host the first annual Unity College Sportsmen’s Conference and Wild Game Dinner at the Unity Centre for the Performing Arts on April 19, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

     Cost is $25 for VIP, $20 for Seminar and Fixings, $12 Individual event with student rates available.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Operation Game Thief, Catch-A-Dream and the Unity College Archery Club trip to the 2007 World 3D Championship.

     The program of events will include an Exotic Game Dinner from 5 – 7 p.m.  The dinner will feature both traditional and exotic meats including beaver, bear, moose and deer, among other items.

     An art show will feature eight award winning Maine artists featuring a wide range of art from paintings to taxidermy.  Participants will include Unity College alumnus Mark Dufresne of Nature’s Reflections Taxidermy on the web at www.dufresnetaxidermy.com; Award winning Maine-based taxidermist Larry Tucker of Tuck’s Taxidermy; award winning Maine master bird taxidermist Tom Berube of Tom’s Avian Taxidermy on the web at www.tomsavian.com;  wildlife artists Patti Carter and David Footer www.davidfooter.com; Fish carver Gene Bahr (www.genebahr.com); sculptors specializing in nature scenes in bronze, Maine-based artist Forest Hart (www.foresthart.com), and David Smus; and wildlife bird carver Steve Brettell.

     A cornerstone event of the conference will be a Whitetail Deer Seminar by world renowned photographer and outdoor writer Charles J. Alsheimer from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.  Topics covered will include Whitetail behavior, the Moon’s influence on whitetail deer, sign interpretation, hunting strategies, and quality deer management.      Alsheimer will incorporate his award-winning photography into the presentation.  He will end the seminar with a motivational discussion of the future of deer hunting, encouraging hunters to protect their sport for generations to come.
