Unity College and Husson College Announce Criminal Justice Partnership

Unity, Maine – October, 2006 –  For the second time in a year, Unity College and Husson College have announced a partnership to benefit students and the region.  The new partnership allows Unity College students to earn their four-year undergraduate degree while preparing to earn a master’s in Criminal Justice Administration at Husson College.  Unity graduates who participate in the program will spend a year at Husson College to earn their Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration degree.

During the Spring Semester of 2006, Unity and Husson announced their first partnership, a program that allows Unity students to earn a Master of Science degree in Business by spending a year studying at Husson after they graduate from Unity.

“This new partnership leading to a Master in Criminal Justice degree from Husson College combines the strengths of both institutions,” said Unity College President Mitchell Thomashow.  “The Conservation Law Enforcement degree program at Unity College is nationally recognized.  The opportunity for Conservation Law Enforcement graduates to earn their Master of Criminal Justice within a year of earning their undergraduate degree is ideal.”

Students apply to the program their junior year, then transfer into the program their senior year, explained Alisa Gray, Strategic Projects Coordinator at Unity College.  “We expect many of our Conservation Law Enforcement students to take advantage of this program,” Gray said.  “This will open many doors and help jump start their career in law enforcement.”

“This program provides a strong background in management and supervision principles that can be carried into both the public and private sector law enforcement positions”, said Marie Hansen, Director of the Legal Studies program at Husson College.  “Students will be able to seek advancement in careers beyond entry-level positions with current techniques and critical analysis skills that upper-level managers need.”

“This partnership is a wonderful example of how private schools can work together to improve the education landscape in Maine.  We are proud to partner with Unity College,” said Dr. Richard Stephens, Husson College Chief Academic Officer.

Unity College is a small private college in rural Maine that provides dedicated, engaged students with a liberal arts education which emphasizes the environment and natural resources.  Unity College graduates are prepared to be environmental stewards, effective leaders, and responsible citizens through active learning experiences within a supportive community.
