Author Allison Wallace to Speak at Unity Centre for the Performing Arts

Unity, Maine – October, 2006 –  Author Allison Wallace will offer a reading on Thursday, October 19 at 7 p.m., Unity Centre for the Performing Arts on 42 Depot Street in Unity, Maine.  A book signing will follow the reading.

Wallace’s first work of creative nonfiction is entitled A Keeper of Bees: Notes on Hive and Home (Random House, 2006).  A Senior Fulbright Fellow and former Associate Professor of English at Unity College, Wallace writes about beekeeping from the perspective of philosopher and scientist.  The result is a mixture of personal memoir and exploration of the natural world, with musings that illuminate both human and honeybee behavior.

Noted nature writer Scott Russell Sanders writes that “Allison Wallace offers us sweetness and light in abundance … Like the finest books about the sustaining mystery we call nature, this one entertains us while enlarging our sense of where we truly dwell.  It demonstrates that literature can be witty as well as wise.”

The event is free and open to the general public.
