UNITY (March 29): Artist and pottery instructor Randy Fein of Lincolnville is working with her Unity College Intermediate Ceramics students to create a clay relief mural for the college.

The ceramic mural currently is slated to be installed on the facade of the South Coop, over the large window.

Fein has created numerous public works during her professional career. The students considered some of these and also viewed images of works created by both ancient cultures and contemporary international artists.

A clay relief mural titled "Sustainable Cycles" is in process at Unity College. The work measures 4 by 4 feet.

"These talented students created a fantastic clay relief mural that they are very proud of, but our work is not complete. Working in clay is a long detailed process as these students know," said Fein.

The work, with colored glazes and fused recycled glass, will be fired in kilns several times to a final temperature of 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit. Fein will do a presentation on the project during the April faculty meeting for input on the best site for the public art work.
