Stephen Nason of Unity College to Lead New England Higher Education Sustainability Effort

Unity, Maine – June, 2009 – Stephen Nason, Director of Residence Life / Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at Unity College has been named to lead a ground breaking sustainability effort for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region I, which includes Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

NASPA is the leading voice for student affairs administration, policy, and practice, and affirms the commitment of the student affairs profession to educating the whole student and integrating student life and learning.

The NASPA Sustainability Knowledge Community that Nason will lead is charged with advancing sustainability practices through the education and engagement of members.
“As an administrator at an environmental college that has a focus on sustainability, I am most pleased to lead this new effort,” said Nason. “The future of colleges and universities in America will include sustainability in many forms. This effort is part of a larger focus on the importance of sustainability not only in higher education, but as it relates to survival on this planet.”

Nason is currently organizing a comprehensive sustainability program to serve the needs of the over 400 NASPA members in the New England region. Members of the Sustainability Knowledge Community will communicate at local, regional and national NASPA meetings and conferences. They will also attend other sustainability meetings and work to develop better sustainability approaches for the use of technology in student affairs.

Unity College is a small private college in rural Maine that provides dedicated, engaged students with a liberal arts education which emphasizes the environment and natural resources.
