‘Tis the Holiday Season with Unity’s Unique Light Display

Unity, Maine – December, 2008 – The holiday season arrives in Unity, Maine in early December when the seasonal lights outside the home of Stephen and Lisa Nason are lit and ready to be spotted by random satellites.

A centerpiece of the display is a large U with green tree within, the symbol of Unity College. It was designed and constructed by Stephen and his father David, a Blue Hill, Maine resident and retired Principal and eighth grade teacher at Blue Hill Consolidated School.

Both Stephen and Lisa Nason are employees of the environmental college and live on the edge of campus, directly adjacent to the Unity College sign at the foot of Quaker Hill Road near the bridge over Sandy Stream in Unity.

The theme for the entire display reflects the Nason’s love of birds and penguins in particular.  Both Nason’s are careful to point out that they have created the most sustainable light display possible, with L.E.D. lights on timers. In the future they hope to consider installing solar powered light displays for the holiday season.

Unity College is a small private college in rural Maine that provides dedicated, engaged students with a liberal arts education which emphasizes the environment and natural resources. Unity College graduates are prepared to be environmental stewards, effective leaders, and responsible citizens through active learning experiences within a supportive community.
