Unity College Campus Awash in Colors, Student Initiative Replaces Large Sweep of Lawn with Flowers

Unity, Maine – July, 2009 – A large sweep of lawn that was converted by Unity College students during the Spring 2009 Semester into a large flower garden is in full bloom, attracting the attention of visitors to the region.

“This is awe inspiring,” said Alumni Relations and Events Coordinator Kate Grenier. “I adore flowers and this is just amazing. It reminds me of a Persian carpet.”

Though Unity College, an environmental college that goes by the tag line America’s Environmental College, has always been a campus that strives to widely incorporate flowers into the campus landscape, the large flower garden adjacent to Cianchette Hall is a new initiative.
Unity College students converted the large sweep of lawn adjacent to Cianchette Hall into a massive flower garden with the help and blessing of the Facilities and Maintenance Department.

“We will be planting more flower gardens around campus in the future,” confirmed Director of Facilities and Public Safety Roger Duval. “Everyone loves flowers.”

Unity College is a small private college in rural Maine that provides dedicated, engaged students with a liberal arts education which emphasizes the environment and natural resources. Unity College graduates are prepared to be environmental stewards, effective leaders, and responsible citizens through active learning experiences within a supportive community.
