Unity College to Host Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 4

Unity College will host a Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 4, in the gymnasium on campus from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. A community meal and contra dance will also take place on April 4 in the Student Center directly adjacent to the gymnasium.

The community meal will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and feature freshly prepared pizza with locally produced toppings. The suggested donation is $5 per person.

A contra dance will follow the community meal will be a contra dance beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will be called by John Mcintire of Unity.

The events are being organized and sponsored by Unity College, the Unity Barn Raisers and Healthy Waldo County, with grant support from Inland Hospital of Waterville.

Health and wellness, community-based, preventive health education, social services, fitness and related organizations from across Maine will participate in the Wellness Fair.

A variety of health and social service organizations will have booths at the fair offering education and information about the services they provide. Some of the services include family planning, health insurance, domestic violence prevention, tobacco cessation, substance abuse prevention and recovery, sexual assault support, the CHIPS child safety program, elder care, dental care, acupuncture, massage, naturopathy, immunizations, homeopathy, asthma, family medical services, respiratory medical supplies, etc. There will also be information about local food, a local children’s camp; demonstrations of rock climbing, karate, pilates and dance; information about financial planning, and more.

Healthy snacks, herbal teas, and local food products will be available for sampling.

Door prizes include a sail for two on “Ponder,” a restored 1952 sailboat, offered by the Unity Barn Raisers. The Unity Barn Raisers is also offering a community boat building display with a demonstration of the boat built by youths from the Unity area.
