Unity College Professor John Zavodny to Host New Show on WERU Community Radio 89.9 and weru.org Unity, Maine – November 17, 2010 – Unity College Professor John Zavodny of Belfast, Maine, will be hosting Mid-Coast Current, a new WERU public affairs program focusing on news, events, and perspectives. “This show is a forum for informed in-studio and call-in discussion of events, organizations, and issues that are relevant to residents of Knox and Waldo Counties,” explained Zavodny. “We expect it will also be interesting to the broader WERU listening audience.” A transplanted Ohioan who has lived in the mid-coast region for over a decade, Zavodny has come to appreciate the rich textures and nuances of Maine living. “We will have a chance to explore the interesting people, institutions, and perspectives of the mid-coast region,” Zavodny noted. “I am thrilled to help develop this partnership between Unity College and WERU Community Radio, uniting two great Maine institutions.” The show will air on the third Friday of every month on 89.9 FM from 10-11 a.m. beginning on Friday, November 19. Like all WERU programs, Mid-Coast Currents is available for live streaming on the web at weru.org and will also be archived and available at the WERU website. Zavodny noted, "My Mom and Dad are very excited to be able to listen live and in archives at their home in Cleveland. They're just not quite sure how they're going to get themselves on the internet." The program is designed to explore issues relevant to mid-coast Maine; expose listeners to environmentally and socially responsible businesses and organizations; and promote community dialogue. “Our inaugural show will explore downtown revitalization efforts in Belfast and Rockland with Larraine Brown, Mike Hurley, Lorain Francis, and Roxanne Eflin from several different community development concerns,” he explained. Brown is with Our Town, Belfast; Hurley is a Belfast city councilman; Francis is with Rockland Main Street; and Eflin is with the Maine Development Foundation.
