Unity College and Unity Barn Raisers Help Unity Area Residents Weatherize Homes Neighbors helping neighbors is a rural tradition that has long been the fabric weaving together a tapestry of vibrant, strong communities. With the Maine winter looming and energy prices a serious concern for many, Unity College has joined with the Unity Barn Raisers in a Neighbor Warming Neighbor plan to help families and individuals weatherize their homes. The plan is in conjunction with Time & Tide Resource Conservation and Development Area, a co-sponsor of the weatherization initiative. The first outreach for the weatherization initiative will take place on Saturday, October 25. The staging area for this weatherization effort will be at the Unity Community Center, 32 School Street in Unity beginning at 8 a.m. Ten teams of Unity College student, faculty and staff, along with Unity area residents, will weatherize 20 homes in Unity and surrounding area. Executive Director of the Unity Barn Raisers and Unity College alum Tess Woods will be at the Unity Community Center coordinating volunteer activities throughout the day. A celebration pizza party will be held at the Unity Community Center at 3 p.m. for the volunteers. Unity College is a small private college in rural Maine that provides dedicated, engaged students with a liberal arts education which emphasizes the environment and natural resources. Unity College graduates are prepared to be environmental stewards, effective leaders, and responsible citizens through active learning experiences within a supportive community.
