What is Dean's Cup?

The Dean’s Cup is a residence life program designed to increase community involvement in the residence halls of Unity College by bringing residents together through building competitions in various contests throughout the academic year. The Dean's Cup program was started in 2008-2009 by residence life from the suggestion of a student on how to increase residential community involvement.  In 2008 the Dean's Cup program won the Maine Association of Student Affairs Practitioners Program of the Year.  After each contest, residence halls are awarded points and the residence with the highest total of points at the end of the academic year will win the Dean’s cup. By having residents compete as a building it is hoped that a sense of identity and belonging is fostered as the residents take more pride and responsibility for their residential communities.

Dean's Cup Events 

There is minimum of two Dean's Cup events per month during the academic year. Residents compete as a building and its residents living in the building can compete for the building. Some contests might be ongoing (common area damages, amount of recycling, etc) while others would be a specific event (volleyball tournament, egg toss contest, attendance percentage at a presentation, etc). Scoring for the contest will be as follows:

• 1^st place 60 points
• 2^nd place 50 points
• 3^rd place 40 points
• 4^th place 30 points
• 5^th place 20 points
• 6^th place 10 points

The Director of Residence Life/Assistant Dean for Student Affairs is the final arbiter of points as is responsible for maintaining the point totals and the Dean’s Cup web page. The Director is also responsible for setting the schedule of Dean’s Cup events and will solicite ideas from the faculty, staff and students.

Dean's Cup Trophy

The Dean’s Cup Trophy is kept secured and safe by the Director of Residence Life/Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.  The Dean's Cup Trophy often makes appearances at Dean's Cup events through out the year.  Each semester's winning building name is engraved on the trophy and a Dean’s cup plaque is given to the winning building to be put on display in that building.

• Cianchette Hall (Orange)
• Maplewood & Cottages (Brown)
• Eastview (White/tye dye)
• Off Campus (Red)
• Westview (Green)
• Wood Hall (Blue)

The winners of the Dean's Cup are as follows:
