Interlibrary Loan Policies and Procedures

Interlibrary loan services are available to current students, faculty, administration and staff of Unity College and to local residents with a valid Quimby Library account.  No charges are usually assessed for the service; however, Quimby Library reserves the right to collect postage or other delivery fees if necessary, and may charge for materials if they are not picked up.

Community users will be charged $2 to cover postage expenses for each non-MaineCat/Non-Minerva interlibrary loan item requested.

Requests are normally filled within a week to ten days; however, unexpected delays may occur.  Borrowers are encouraged to submit requests as far in advance as possible.

As soon as a requested item is received, the library will contact the borrower and advise him/her that the material is ready for pickup.

Photocopied items may usually be kept by the requestor;  for other items, the loan rule is established by the institution from which we borrow, and therefore varies.  It is essential that we return items on time in order to be able to continue borrowing from other libraries.  Replacement fees for lost items will be determined by the loaning institution.  Quimby will attempt to renew items if requested as long as the extension is requested at least four days before the due date.

Quimby Library needs as much information as possible about a requested item in order to obtain it.  Incomplete requests may be delayed or returned for clarification.
