Ice Climbing Ski & Avalanche
Prior Experience Required: No
Exertion Level: Moderate to strenuous.
Travel to Grafton Notch one of Maine’s favorite ice climbing destinations. This is where you will learn how to ice climb and if conditions are right we will spend time on a slab or even a waterfall.  We will also snowshoe in the mountains in Grafton Notch where we will assess the dangers of remote areas in the winter.  Learn about avalanche rescue situations through hands-on practice and realistic scenarios.  We will also spend time learning outdoor cooking and living skills, including Leave No Trace principles. The group will be staying in a cabin with a wood stove, beds, and an outhouse. All food and group gear will be provided. Participants should be able and willing to carry their own equipment, as well as group food and gear to the cabin. The menu will consist of wholesome and delicious foods. We will also participate in a service project to benefit and preserve the park.
 
Winter Exploration
Prior Experience Required: No
Exertion Level: Mild to moderate.
Spend time exploring Mid-Coast Maine where we will participate in a variety of winter activities. We will head to Camden Snow Bowl were we will either downhill ski or snowboard. Another day we will grab the ice fishing equipment and if the conditions are right, we will head out on the ice and see if the fish are biting. We will also go over the basics of primitive skills including: water collection, shelter building, fire making, tracking, camouflage and stalking techniques. We will also spend time learning outdoor cooking and living skills, including Leave No Trace principles. The group will be staying in a cabin with a wood stove, beds, and an outhouse. All food and group gear will be provided. Participants should be able and willing to carry their own equipment, as well as group food and gear to the cabin. The menu will consist of wholesome and delicious foods. We will also participate in a service project to benefit and preserve the park. All fees and day fishing license will be purchased by Unity College.
