Planning for the 7th annual Arts for Hunger is currently underway. Rather than a month-long event, this year’s Arts for Hunger will be held on one action-packed evening, Saturday, October 26th.
The evening will begin at 6:00PM with hearty appetizers and desserts featuring local ingredients, music by Tremolino and opening bids on silent auction items. At 7:30 PM award winning documentary, A PLACE AT THE TABLE, will be shown in the Auditorium Final closing bids will be at 9:00 p.m.
Film: A PLACE AT THE TABLE: 50 Million Americans (1 in 4 children) don't know where their next meal is coming from. A PLACE AT THE TABLE tells the powerful stories of three such Americans, who maintain their dignity even as they struggle just to eat. In a riveting journey that will change forever how you think about the hungry, A PLACE AT THE TABLE shows how the issue could be solved forever, once the American public decides - as they have in the past - that ending hunger is in the best interest of us all.
Music: TREMOLINO: Tremolino is a quartet of Waldo County musicians, featuring singer Leslie Stein. Fado, a unique musical sound, is a fiery, soulful folk song style from Portugal characterized by passionate lyrics and mournful tunes. Fado is said to be the oldest urban folk music in the Western world, representing the voice of the Portuguese soul, yet unfamiliar to many in Maine.
Silent Auction: Specialty artwork created and donated by talented local artists and crafters throughout Waldo County will be on display and available for bidding throughout the evening. Bid High, Bid Often and take your treasure home with you that evening.
Food: Hearty appetizers and desserts featuring local ingredients, created by Monica at Crosstrax, will be available throughout the evening.
As in previous years, all funds raised at this year’s Arts for Hunger will be gifted to the following local groups that work to end hunger in our local communities: Volunteer Regional Food Pantry, People for People and Open Door.
Please save the evening of October 26th on your calendar. Your support is appreciated!
