In a mission that is in keeping with the environmental and community service focus of the student body, students at Unity College have organized a relief effort for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The students are hosting a fundraiser on December 8 here at the UCCPA at 7:00PM. The event will feature a concert by The Coloradas, information about hurricane relief, and presentations by Unity College students.
At the center of relief efforts is a group of first-year Unity College students enrolled in a class called The Unity Experience, which stresses Unity values including community engagement and environmental responsibility. In addition to the concert, the students are planning a trip to affected areas to offer volunteer support later in December. For more information about the project or to offer a donation with 100% of the proceeds benefiting hurricane relief contact John Zavodny at (207) 948-9129 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.

More about The Coloradas: Roy Davis and Bernie Nye (both Waldo County natives) are the songwriting team that brought us the critically acclaimed albums Deadweight and We Are A Lightning Bolt. They’ve teamed up with Maine-based and nationally renowned bluegrass musicians Joe Walsh (The Gibson Brothers), Amanda Kowalski (Della Mae) and Steve Roy (Laurie Lewis, Hit & Run Bluegrass) to bring us The Coloradas. The group combines traditional bluegrass and blues with modern-day stories of life’s many concerns. (www.thecoloradas.com)
