Academic Background
M.Ed, Counselor Education University of Maine
B.A. Humanities and Outdoor Recreation, Unity College
I am the Visiting Instructor of Adventure Therapy here at Unity College. I am also alum, and proudly graduated from Unity in 2003. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from the University of Maine. My greatest passion is helping people to discover their strengths and improve well-being through wilderness experiences and high adventure.
Core to my passion is the belief that people are the sum of their strengths, not their deficits. Also, that a pure wilderness experience creates an environment that equalizes all.
When I am not teaching, I love to kayak on both rivers and oceans. Most recently, I led the first descent of the upper 9 miles of the Wassataquoik Stream, that flows East off of Katahdin here in Maine. I have been a member of an expedition that paddled 300+ miles of the Prince William Sound in Alsaka, and led 3 separate expeditions to the Florida Everglades National Park.
I believe in student learning, and central to my work is bringing academic integrity and compassion to Adventure-Based Environmental Education and Therapy here at Unity College.
