Frye Mountain



 

Frye Mountain is located near Montville, in Waldo County, Maine. The Maine Forest Service manages a fire tower on the mountain summit. Roads within the Frye Mountain State Game Management Area offer easy access to the base of the mountain. A jeep road passes within short hiking distance of the summit.

To visit Frye Mountain, take Route 220 north from Route 3 near Liberty for six miles (passing signs for the center of Montville). Turn right onto a dirt road at the Frye Mountain State Game Management Area sign. Follow the road for three miles, and look for a trail leading uphill.

The mountain may also be approached by turning south from Route 137 at Fosters Corner in Knox. This location is eleven miles west of Belfast and three miles east of Knox Center. After following the Frye Mountain State Game Management Area sign, proceed on the dirt road for two miles to the start of the trail.
