Physical Geology

This course provides an overview of geologic processes with a focus on those which contributed to the geologic evolution of Central Maine.  The first third of the course covers mineral structures, rock-forming environments, and identification of rocks and minerals.  The second third of the course addresses glaciation, stream processes, and landscape development.  The course concludes with analyses of geologic time, the structure of the earth, and the plate tectonic theory.  Field trips through the course show examples and effects of the geologic processes covered in lecture.
