Unity Students Unveil Documentary Film

Students at Unity College recently completed a unique class project, one that saw the semester ending with a movie premiere instead of a final exam. On December 14, students in Professor John Zavodny's documentary filmmaking class screened for campus "Growing Awareness," their 15-minute long documentary about climate change and local foods.

The documentary uses interviews with author and environmentalist Bill McKibben, Unity College President Stephen Mulkey, and Unity College Food and Farms Project Coordinator Sara Trunzo to discuss the connections between local agriculture and climate change solutions. It follows locally grown pumpkins through a 350 climate action rally at the Common Ground Country Fair to their distribution at a Unity Maine food pantry. "Growing Awareness" was produced entirely by Unity College students, who interviewed, filmed, wrote and edited throughout the fall semester.
