The Unity College Center for the Arts (UCCA) is set to host a new art exhibit titled “Foundations” featuring drawings and paintings by Ingrid Ellison of Camden. The show will run now through March 2.

“My job as an artist is to notice. There is a steadiness in a studio practice, and stability in the square and within that framework the possibilities of investigating space, line, and color are endless,” said Ellison. “The ritual of daily work; looking, reflecting, and making in this space is where I am most grounded. Influenced by Earth’s changing rhythms and seasonal palette, my observations connect me to the observed poetry of place through color line and shape.”

Ellison’s work uses densely colored passages juxtaposed against open and shifting planes of space. Her palette is inspired by the natural world, recognizing the subtleties of the changing light and colors of early spring. Her work is rooted in the process of applying, wiping, and scraping paint in layers, giving evidence to both the hand of the artist, time, and impressions of pattern and location.

There will be an opening reception for “Foundations,” on Thursday, February 14 from 4:30-6 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
