Rustic Overtones, a popular seven-piece indie rock band from Portland, will appear at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in April.
“An Evening with Rustic Overtones” is set for 8 p.m. Saturday, April 11. Doors open at 8 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door. Order tickets at all Bull Moose Music locations, via the band’s website or via PayPal.
With a discography that spans 20 years, the band’s unique version of indie rock is strongly influenced by soul music, garage punk, jazz and psychedelic music of the 1960s and 70s.
Rolling Stone magazine calls it “a unique sound steeped in both Earth, Wind and Fire-style funk and late-era Beatles psychedelia,” while Billboard magazine says the band’s “firepower (is a) skin-tight rhythm section, soulful keyboards, stinging guitars, funky horns and the potent, complex, and totally engrossing voice of frontman Dave Gutter.”
Rustic Overtones has collaborated and recorded with David Bowie, Imogen Heap, Ray Lamontagne, Eric Krasno, Funkmaster Flex and Naughty by Nature, as songwriters, multi-instrumentalists, arrangers, and composers, and have toured nationally as direct support for De La Soul, Steel Pulse, and Run DMC and others. The band was also the first band in history to be broadcast live into space via satellite. Gutter is also a prolific songwriter, having penned songs for Aaron Neville, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Eric Krasno, Res, Gramatik, Carlos Santana, and Eric Clapton.
Located at 42 Depot St. in the village of Unity, the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts is a vibrant cultural and arts center that offers an eclectic mix of music, films, art, lectures, and more. It also offers a beautiful facility for those in the community to rent for group functions such as weddings, conferences, church services, yoga classes or local music events.
“The UCCPA has had a rich history of quality musical entertainment, so we are delighted to bring music back to Unity,” said Wendi Richards, events manager for the venue. “The community will tell you it has been gone far too long.”
