Unity College Develops New Athletics Logo
With its strong focus on sustainability science, Unity College is often associated with activism, science, and research. The larger picture is that the College has a strong athletic tradition that includes inter-collegiate championship wins and numerous records.
In keeping with Unity’s strong athletic traditions, the Department of Athletics has developed a suite of new athletic logos.
“We wanted to begin to reframe Unity’s athletic identity with a new logo that reflects the athletic camaraderie present within both club sports and inter-collegiate athletics,” noted Chris Kein, Director of Athletics. “This new logo is a symbol of the developing relationships between all of the athletic constituents. These include current students, college employees, alumni and the community. It is a rallying point and source of pride.”
The concept for developing a new logo began with a broad idea shared between Kein and student athletes. One student took the initiative to develop an initial drawing which was shared with Camden, Maine based graphic designer Anneli Skaar. Over a period of months, the initial design was revised until the final concept was reached.
“Chris did an exceptional job soliciting student involvement at every stage of this process,” noted Kate Gilbert, Marketing Coordinator and project manager. “Developing an athletic logo is really an exercise in community building. We really wanted this design to be a source of pride for all of the student athletes.”
Unity College is a member of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the premiere athletic conference for small colleges.
The logo will officially be unveiled and celebrated on March 12 at the athletics banquet.
