Unity College President Stephen Mulkey has joined a movement designed to highlight the importance of student financial aid and spare it from cuts at the federal level.

Efforts are underway at Unity College and nationally through the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) to raise awareness about the potential for cuts to student financial aid as part of a deficit reduction package in the United States Congress.

“Student financial aid has been the backbone of access to college for middle and lower income students for decades, and for many students access to a college education translates to upward economic mobility,” Mulkey stated.

In recent weeks the NAICU Presidents Network has marshaled support from more than 58,000 members of its campus communities, along with other concerned citizens, who have joined the Save Student Aid effort by signing The Student Aid Alliance (SAA) statement of support for financial aid.

Individuals are encouraged to sign the statement of support that calls on lawmakers to Save Student Aid is.  It is available online.

There are additional options for getting involved in this effort.  Visit the Save Student Aid Facebook campaign through the National Association of Financial Aid Administrators.
