Problem:

Perceptions of the value of a college education have increasingly diminished in relevance, with many potential students considering alternatives including online courses, certifications, associate degrees, community college, and even questioning the need for a college education at all.

The TERRAIN Solution:

TERRAIN offers an education that builds highly tangible skills and expertise both on and off-campus. Short courses, travel opportunities, internships and Year 2 Practicums shadowing a mentor, all serve to expand a student’s understanding of how professionals are tackling sustainability challenges in the real world, building perspective outside of the traditional classroom. Short courses, for example, might be delivered face-to-face or might involve some online participation. Many short courses develop specific skills or particular certifications/credentials, such as wilderness first aid, wilderness first responder, firearms safety, molecular biology lab techniques, and more.

Example: A skills-based short course.
