Unity College’s May Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in Tozier Gymnasium.
Unity College 2019 Commencement Information
Graduation Date and Time:
Unity College will hold its 2019 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11 starting at 11 a.m. in Tozier Gymnasium. Doors will open at 9:45 a.m.
Arriving and Directions:
Graduates are to arrive no later than 10:15 a.m. and will meet in the Koons Hall Parking Lot. There will be a group photo at 10:30 in the field in front of Koons Hall. After the photo, students will line up and prepare for the processional that will start at 10:55 sharp!
Cap and Gown for Flagship Students:
All student wear cap and gowns to commencement. Cap and gowns are black. Business formal attire is recommended under the regalia. Cap and gowns for Flagship students can be picked up in the campus store a couple of weeks before Commencement. Leigh will send an email when the cap and gowns are in and ready to be picked up.
Cap, Gown and Hood for Distance Education Students:
Your regalia will be mailed you to, so make sure you bring this with you for the ceremony. If you are receiving a master’s degree, you will need to bring the hood, but not wear it. It will be placed on you at the ceremony.
Distance Education Students Unable to Attend:
Distance Education students who are unable to attend are encouraged to send a photo of themselves in their regalia to be shown at the ceremony. Photos can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cords / Stoles:
Any student receiving a cord or stole will receive it at the Senior Awards Ceremony on Thursday morning. Anyone who is unable to attend the ceremony, please make arrangements with Laura Reed (email@example.com) to obtain your cords after the ceremony on Thursday or on Friday.
Degrees and honors:
You will receive a diploma cover at the ceremony. Once grades are finalized, diplomas will be mailed to your home address. The valedictorian will be announced at the commencement ceremony.
Do I have to apply for graduation?
Yes. Students must apply for graduation by February 15. Students who apply for graduation are charged a $100 fee whether they participate in the ceremony or not. This fee includes purchase of your cap and gown along with costs associated with the diploma.
Unity College will stream the 2019 Commencement Ceremony on its Facebook page. The feed will start just prior to the ceremony.
There will be signs and public safety officers assisting with parking once people arrive on campus.
Hockmeyer studio will take photos of graduates. They will send information to the home address of graduates prior with information on purchasing photos. Unity College staff will also take photos throughout the day and will post a photo gallery on Facebook a few days following the ceremony.
Following commencement, there will be a reception with food and beverages outside of Tozier Gymnasium. Parents, families, and friends are encourages to stay and celebrate with the graduates.
Retired United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills will deliver the 2019 Commencement address. In April 2012, SSG Mills of the 82nd Airborne was critically injured on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan by an IED while on patrol, losing portions of both legs and both arms. He is one of only five quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive his injuries. He has since started the Travis Mills Foundation, and has a New York Times bestselling memoir, Tough as They Come.

Everyone attending the commencement will need a ticket. Student receive an email in early March to register up for tickets. The number of tickets per graduate is determined by the size of the graduating class. Watch your email for detail. Students may have as many guests as they have tickets for. Parents, relatives, and friends may not request tickets. All tickets will be requested via the students graduating.
